Pyorrhea, more commonly known as periodontitis, is one of the most common dental diseases in humans. This type of dental disease occurs when the periodontal tissue that surrounds and supports the teeth is damaged. If left untreated, pyorrhea can lead to tooth loss, or even tooth loss if things get difficult. Tooth loss occurs because you begin to lose the alveolar bone that surrounds your teeth as the periodontium deteriorates.
It is also important to remember that before true pyorrhea occurs, you will first get gingivitis and it will get worse from there. Once you notice symptoms of this gum disease, you need to treat it to prevent it from getting worse and developing into periodontitis or another form of periodontitis.
